HondaJet

Keeping calm, Chiving on.
The HondaJet stopped by a couple of days ago on its way to Oshkosh, and they let us go and check it out. Pretty cool little jet!

Sorry for the quality, they were taken with my cell phone.

No problem, thanks for sharing!

What is your opinion on it now that you saw it up close and the interior?

It sounds like an impressive little jet, very clean with a unique look. From what the crew was saying it'll do roughly 420kts true in the low 30's with a max alt. of FL430, on 250-300pph, per side. 7 people (1 pilot + 6 pax or 2 pilots + 5 pax), about 1180 NBAA IFR range with reserves. Not bad for what you'd be paying ($3.9m said the sales guy).

The interior was still in the test configuration, so it only had one fairly spartan seat and a bunch of computers and wires...so I'll reserve my judgement on that part, although they did have a hand out showing what it should look like, it looks nicer than any VLJ interior that I've seen so far. I guess the flight deck will have the G1000 but the test airplane had smaller screens than the production version will have, otherwise that was the same. Very cool to see an airplane with s/n P0001 on it!

Gotta love a Honda. I saw them flying it over their test track in Marysville, OH a year or so ago. Pretty neat.

Im not sure about how the engines are mounted. Does that design serve an aerodynamic purpose or is it just flare to be different? Its okay looking.

honda is the ****!!!

love their cars, and love the look of the new plane.

they have a sales office here at TLH and i get to see one every now and then. they look sexy, and im sure its a blast to fly.

From Wikipedia

Honda decided to go with an unusual over-the-wing podded engine configuration, a feature developed on the innovative Vereinigte Flugtechnische Werke VFW-614 decades earlier, which allows for more space within the fuselage and reduction of drag at higher speeds
And the HondaJet website: Over-the-Wing design

I for one believe the HJ will be a very successful design.

My understanding also is that the engines mounted on the wings drastically reduce noise and vibration inside the cabin. Not sure if there is any truth behind that just heard.:)

I think the overwing engines are for both performance, and to make it stand out. They even curved the mounts the engines sit on to follow the fuselage to reduce drag and enhance yaw control at low speeds by directing the airflow towards the rudder.
