Home Friggin Sweet Friggin Home, safe and mostly sound!!! From Afghanistan. Im still in a bit of culture/readjustment shock and I had it "good" over there compared to most. It was an interesting year and I'm glad I got to do my part in supporting the troops on the ground. I flew approx. 180 missions racking up just over 700 hrs. My most memorable mission was one night we got retasked from a signals collection mission to go support a TIC (troops in contact). On station we found that a dismounted patrol had come under attack in a village and that 3 of thier guys were seperated and lost contact with the main body. We were able to find them and "walk" them back to thier patrol advising them along the way of what the enemy activity and location. The flying was interesting and the scenery up North was specatacular but we were often reminded that this was not a holiday vacation. It was challenging flying at night in wicked high terrain in pitch blackness with NO NVG's ... don't ask ...
While I was gone my civilian job totally dried up and the company sold the jet (C-650). My leave ran out this week but I have been very blessed and got picked up for an AGR (Active Duty Guard job) flying the C-12 full time. While not the shiny jet I loved to fly it is a terrific and great job and I am excited to be where I am at professionally and personally.
I am continually impressed and humbled by the support and kind words of encouragement from people stateside ... it is very much appreceited so I now try to recognize and thank veterans where ever I meet them.
It is goooood to be home!
