Holy cumulonimbus batman!

MAN! Saw some impressive freaking storms today in Connecticut! Towering cumulonimbus, text book anvil tops and a couple thousand feet vertical building. Never seen anything like it up here. I didn't get hit by the full intensity of the storm (no rain at all actually), but when the monster part of the storm was abeam where I was by a couple miles, you could feel all the humidity get sucked out of the air, and the temp dropped from the 90's into the 70's. Was pretty wild, and sort of a good learning experience. Really makes you appreciate the sheer power of one of these things, and how it would man handle an airplane going through it.

I took some pics, i'll be sure to post them up later. I think you guys will find them interesting.

:yeahthat: I second that...

I'm always impressed at what a little wind and water vapor will do, under the right circumstances.

What worries me the most is possibly flying right through one of those cells embedded in other clouds -- no stormscope, and delayed ATC weather radar means if you do, you'd better HOLD ON!!!!

Unfortunately the pics didn't come out half as good as I thought they would. This is really the only one without massive sunglare. IMO it doesn't do any justice to what I saw this afternoon, none the less, impressive as hell.

It was amazing looking. I went down to the airport to help someone do a mag compass calibration, but when we saw this, and the many other monsters we decided just to tie the aircraft down really tight lol.

Believe it or not, one of these future unmatured boomers came right over the field, and some fool in a 172 was flying the pattern doing touch-n-goes. Guess hes never heard of wind sheer or micro burst? I sure as hell wouldn't do it.
