HMS Ark Royal carrier ops

Dated video from back when the Royal Navy had "normal" aircraft carriers and not just VSTOL carriers, and when aircraft such as the F-4K Phantom II, Fairey Gannett, and Blackburn Buccaneer were operated by the RN's Fleet Air Arm.

In this video, F-4 operations are shown as well as RAF pilots (on exchange, I believe) learning to carrier land the Buccaneer.

I have to say, with my very limited experience with carrier operations having only been on a couple of carriers for a week or so, that in this video, this is the nicest, calmest, most understanding, caring, and friendliest Air Boss and Mini Boss I've ever seen, either in person or on film. The US Navy doesn't seem to have any of these. :)

The air boss has a incredibly stressful job, and that stress tends to manifest itself in some colorful language.

Air Boss on a LHA/LHD much more calm than on a CVN. There are some people that get the stupid bug down on the flight deck and become a safety hazard to the whole operation. The Air Boss will call them out and they'll have to take a trip up to PRI FLY for a ass chewing!:fury::D

It's from a 70s UK TV series called "Sailor". The full thing is worth the time. The bloke struggling to trap got a "nice" debrief for the TV cameras than apparently was provided a new one free of charge once the cameras had gone...
