Hmm...a problem...

There are a lot of required classes that are a waste of time here. I definitely agree with Luke on Physics. That sucked and the teacher didn't incorporate any aviation into it anyway.

[/ QUOTE ]

Is it an aviation-physics course? If not, why should the teacher incorporate aviation into it? That would be like incorporating aviation into a European Lit course...

Do you guys want to be well-rounded, fuctional adults?

Physics 150, which is titled Physics for Aerospace Sciences. This is probably why we think there should be aviation incorporated into it.

Here is the description:
"An introduction to the principles and concepts of physics as they apply to the study of aerospace sciences."

I did learn somethings, but it was an easy 5 credits that I put forth no effort into.

Makes sense, that's why I asked!

I still don't get why we need to take a foreign lang. It's not like we can use a language other than english for anything concerning aviation. I'm sure the reason is to make us more well rounded blah blah blah, but really, who is going to use it? </rant>

With that said, I'm taking NORW 101 next fall. Perhaps I can get one of the hottie Norwegian ATC gals as a study partner

Oh, nothing really...

...it's just in case we end up flying for Cathay into Hong Kong...

lol

Yeah, indeed stupid. But can't you skip it if you do well in the foreign language placement exam? (Well, that's what the Getting Started booklet says...)

Are you really serious? I'm starting to think that you guys are really going to college to get that check-in-the-box, rather than to learn things!!!

I took lots of Spanish, and although I don't remember half of it, it's helped me tremendously!!!

Well, I speak for myself. I speak and write English and Spanish, as common as it is (but very fluently). That's why I'm not too fond of foreign language classes.

Hey, but when there's no will to learn something, you just can't force it.

I have no desire to learn a foreign language. I would much rather take other classes. Just curious, how has Spanish helped you tremendously?

I know you're not asking me, Jason, but for me, Spanish helped me on the SAT analogies...lol....a lot of cognates..
grin.gif

Well, not to mention the fact that you can communicate with spanish-speaking people..

Just kidding.

Just like Math and English, but they help you tremendously, right?

In alot of ways....First, I was born and raised in California, and Spanish as a second language is just a smart thing to have. That's fast becoming the case in much of the U.S.

Second, it has helped me understand more than my little silly illogical language...which has helped me to understand parts of still other languages!

Thirdly, it helps your critical thinking skills - much like Philosophy does.

Remember, I'd rather take "Airplane Seats & Upholstery" rather than "Human Resources Management", but it doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Yep, that's a definite!
I'm glad I'm a native spanish speaker, in that sense. It really HAS helped me in connecting many english, french, and italian words. (Latin derived, obviously)
But learning multiple languages isn't for everyone. (well, certainly not for me)

I see math and english a lot more practical to my everyday life. Perhaps I'll better understand what you guys are saying when I start taking a foreign lang.

ENGLISH is the language of the United States. When in Rome, do as the Romans too. It's not when in Rome, make the Romans do it like we do.

If you want to be a University educated person, you're going to have to learn more than English and Airplanes 101. That's what it comes down to. Making ignorant "I'm a millworking American" comments like that aren't going to support your case much!

VO-TECH schools are to give you basic, functional skills. If you want to learn to fly and that's all, go to Comair or FSI. If you want a university education, you're going to have to go deeper than that!!!
