Hit vs. Press

Don't quite understand that. When the time could be used to... oh i don't know, learn to fly that airplane, some is going on about the nomenclature of a piece of plastic or metal, that in it's actual use, the switch, button or knob could give a crap less what you call it.

"Cooperate and graduate" becomes a useful mantra when you're going through training at a new company or on a new type :)

It's an Eagle thing. I'd be willing to bet it trickles down from American, like the astronaut medical they used to do at the interview. I didn't mid it; they were paying me to do things their way, so may as well make life as simple as possible and do what they want.

Throttle hold! Or...thrust hold...? THR HOLD, whatever it is. :)

CLAAAMP! (That was MDC's name for what was functionally the same thing as THR HLD, but it's more fun to say)

I'm imagine most classes have at least one of me in 'em ... a systems nerd. It's all "Actually..." and "Did you know..." Figure out how to troll them.

There is a right way and wrong way to do things, employers generally want you to do things the right way. Although some seem hell bent on doing things the wrong way.

FWIW, a throttle limits the amount of air entering an engine. A thrust lever is a whole 'nother device with a whole different purpose (gives a thrust order to the FADEC, on my airplane) BUT, the net effect is similar (push forward spinny things spin faster and you go faster). I can see being anal about TLs, though.

I'm fully aware of the difference and I say it correctly. Even my sim partner knew the difference, but was just having an off day. The sim instructor was out of line for being a bit of a D. 170 hours with the company has finally taken care of any urges I get to say it wrong.

I'm just happy I remember my flows most of the time, much less what to call stuff.

You laugh, but I just went almost 6 weeks without flying!

I think this is the best, the most therapeutic approach. Troll 'em. Maybe on the last day, print off a picture of troll face with the you mad bro thing on it, if they're young enough to understand.

Wrong.

I don't go around karate chopping the pack buttons or jabbing the auto ignition. I push them down with the same caress and care as those that "select" them. I absolutely do not understand how this is a poor habit? Do people really think we are literally hitting buttons. C'mon. It's just a word. That's it.

BrewMaster,
It's NOT "just a word". There really is a significant difference in the proper verbiage. These are things you'll need to get used to.

Sitting in a bar, how many times have you heard someone say about a good looking girl,"I'd MASH that!", or "I'd PRESS that!", or "I'd DEPRESS that!"? There might be some confusion as to what exactly they are trying to say.

Now, "I'd HIT that!" is very clear. :)

I agree. However I'd hope the company would have all of it written down somewhere rather than rely on random sim instructors to teach it.

In my aircraft my pet peeve is when pilots say they are "bringing the PCLs back," or "bringing #1 back." Back where? Back to Fly? Idle? Back to Stop? It's advance or retard, you retard. :)

My pet peeve is pilots that try to get me killed or violated.

You're way too uptight :)

Pretty petty thing to be ragged on about. Both of those words have been pretty much used interchangeably forever.

p.s. It is hard to go wrong with saying Donkey punch.

CLMP! I heard it was an acronym for something but I exorcised those demons a while ago.

(Yeah, I didn't mean 'exercised' dummy! Go to school, flyboy!)
