Hiring Freeze

Hoping there are some psychics out there that can help me with this
I was selected for CMH (Columbus, Ohio) Tower, but when I was selected a year ago they had reached their hiring limits for 2009. Fiscal 2010 rolls around and CMH is not allotted any new hires for 2010.

Is there a good chance this could drag on for a few years? I'm just trying to plan some things and I don't want to make plans and then actually get called when October rolls around.

Hey bud, I have a TOL for CMH as well. It isn't bright for us at all.. from the information I've gathered (not on the forums but from talking to HR and to the facility), if you're set on CMH be ready to start counting the years till we get in. I sent you a private message with details though. If you are set on CMH, hang in there, but if you want to get into ATC as soon as possible, a redirect is probably the best option honestly. I seriously considered a redirect and still am to an extent, but am strong rooted here and have obligations I can't just leave unfortunately.

Not to kill any hopes of anybody getting a redirect, but I was/am/maybe? selected for dayton and after my psychologist messing up all kinds of stuff for my tier 2 I finally have my medical cleared but no where to go.

When I emailed HR about 6 months ago they were looking into a redirect. When I got word my medical had cleared I was also then told No redirect anywhere in ohio bc no one is accepting new hires until the hiring thing gets cleared up and there are open spots. And I was also told before late 2009, and then 2010..... now from my last email its "won't know about 2011 until later in the summer"

Not trying to kill anyones hopes for a quick class date or redirect but its not looking good.

I spoke to HR about an out-of-state redirect when I was seriously considering, but decided against it. If you want to get in within the next year, HR will help you find the right facility in their region that has a need.

Sorry to hear about all your delays too, we'll get there eventually though - hang in there.

Yeah I asked for a transfer too and they said said things are on hold. Ah well, as least I'm in a better position than I was in 2 years ago when I applied.

Redirects aren't just given out. There generally needs to be a compelling reason for them; they've grown tired of people just trying to shave a few months off their training date (not that it stopped me from trying). In any case, it's probably a moot point. They've stopped doing them for the WSA for the year, and it's reasonable to believe that extends to the rest of the country as well.

A few months ago HR was very accommodating to requested redirects, (or at least my rep), I think she just felt bad that we've all been waiting so long and didn't want us all to have to wait till next fiscal year. But like you said, it might be different now as things seem to have been put "on hold" again. (And let me correct myself -- requested redirects to facilities that had a need for this fiscal year. Not just any redirect because you want to be somewhere different.)
 
For anybody who cares Seattle TRACON(S46) is done hiring for a long time. Our last two will be here next week.
