"hiring freeze" news....

Is it really frozen... or just delayed

Hey, as far as I'm concerned, I'm never aging past 28. If anybody asks, it was frozen back when I got my TOL.

i heard that ots will no longer be going to level 10 and up for terminal. anybody also here this?

That's been suggested for some time now, and is really common sense. It was a terrible idea to send new hires to Terminals unequipped for that kind of training in the first place, since most washed out and had to be placed at lower level facilities. Even VRAs and CTOs can struggle there. Yet another reason why we've experienced a slowdown in training and hiring.

Anyway, the FAA hasn't released any sort of "statement", of course, but there've been a few people in management positions who've said things to that effect over on StuckMic. It's a safe bet that in the future, if you don't have prior controlling experience and you're headed to the Terminal environment, you're not going to one of the big places right off the bat.

so i just spoke to an HR rep today. she told me, regarding pubnat 7, that it will be looked at again in march. as of today there is no notice about a pubnat 9 for FY2010 (ending Sept). the hiring delay is due to people that were eligible to take early retirement but didn't (i presume due to their retirement being tanked thanks to the recession) she did say they will be doing large hires again once people meet their forced retirement age.

regarding pubnat 9. she said they usually get around 2 months notice that it's going to happen, so two months from now there might be something, but maybe not

Yeah, but sadly for us, that could still take several years. Those that have been in for 25 years that were hired in at age 20 still have 10 years of eligibility... and who would want to pass up another million bucks (pre-tax) in salary that could go right into their retirement coffers? I don't blame them for sticking around, because I'd probably do the same thing; but at the same time, it really is putting a damper on the whole thing for those of us in queue.

hey everyone, long time no see.

I got an email today from my HR rep saying basically, classes have been reduced by the ATO and are subject to change at any time and for that reason she can not tell us if or when we will have class dates.

This was the first unsolicited communication I have had with her in a while. I have dropped off these boards because last I heard it was 2011 for me. I am still not getting my hopes up for a class any time soon, but I was glad to hear from them

I just left OKC on Feb 5th.. and at that time they were sending alot of instructors/assistants on leave until late summer (Septemberish) because of the fact that they were bringing alot LESS classes in for the rest of this year. They did say that they were still going to be training new hires but not at the rate it was at before with classes lined up back-to-back for months straight. But as usual we were all told that alot of classes were gonna be starting back up in Fiscal year 2011.

Very true. When we were getting one of our PV talks from Kenny the other day he mentioned that last year the Academy saw 900 enroute students, this year they are only going to put 300 enroute students through the program.

Obviously a very large difference in numbers.

What is the FORCED retirement age?

Ya know those are the OJT trainers so for your sake hope they don't all retire.

Some of them. A lot of the new guys are getting rushed towards trainer roles too. And there're plenty of the older ones who don't train.

Not saying that having people who just made CPC run into training is a good thing, though.

Kind of like new commercial pilots immediately becoming CFIs?

Where's the can of worms emoticon? This is as close as I could find: :argue:

So, will all of my clearances still be valid (i.e. drug test, psyche, security)? Or will I have to do all that stuff again?

Also, I turn 29 this year, when am I no longer eligible because of my age?

Drug 6 Months
Medical/Psy 1 Year
Security 2 Years

They still need to hire 11,000 controllers in the next decade. Eleven thousand. Those can't all come from VRA and Reinstatements. At least some CTI grads should be able to get in, PUBNAT - probably not, but CTI should still have a shot.

They got rid of that many in one day.

If they need to (and there's always a chance that they will need to) they'll get them from anywhere they can.

The new system isn't likely to impact demand for new controllers as some may think (even some in the FAA). But I will say that I'm glad I applied way back in pubnat 4. I'm still waiting for a class date, but I just accepted a redirect which has improved my time frame from "maybe FY11" to "will be THIS FY."

You lucky dog. I'd almost accept a redirect anywhere just to get this ball rolling. Where were you headed/are you now headed?
