They are not having a problem filling the first class so it doesnt sound like it will be an issue. I hope that those at Colgan who DESERVE and bid it get it, luckily if you get it you will be an FO and I will never have to work with/near/around you.
Pick your battles, life it too short and this industry is too small and we are all trying to make it just like the next guy. I have a friend with less hours than me flying in a Citation X..I dont hate, I am happy for him. You didnt get the Q, worse things could happen. Spare us the additional unnecesary sarcasm and if you want to congratulate the man then do so, if not, read the post and move on

Looks like you have quite a bit of work / life experience. A lot of pilots at Colgan came from all different backgrounds and walks of life. It's always good to fly with guys like that. You should be proud of where you are today. Good on you and best of luck in training.

Airdale, I am not hateful and I know that the internet makes it difficult to read people but your posts regarding your bitterness towards Colgan and the Q do not make you look good. I have read a few of your posts and I am sure in "real life" you are a good guy, but dont rain on the guys that get the Q's parades, we applied, interviewed, and got hired the same as you. As they say "timing is everything" we were in the right place at the right time...or as time will tell, maybe the wrong place at the wrong time. We will see

Actually, if Airdale manages to get the Q400 at some point, I figure he'll be ready for upgrade to Captain before you and me are, so we very well may have to sit right seat for him. Although I recognize Airdale as being a disgruntled Colgan employee, I have no personal beef with him, and trust that whatever his issues with Colgan, if I ever fly with him he will act like a professional and not take those beefs out on me. A word of advice - this is a small industry, you never know when you're going to cross paths with somebody you ticked off at an earlier point in time.

I really don't like the idea of being a kiss ass to everybody just because it's a small industry. Now I'm quite and usually keep my mouth shut, but if I don't like someone or they cross me I'll just keep my distance and avoid confrontation. Not every one is like this. Some times people need to be put in their place, and being a kiss ass just because he might be a capt someday just allows them to walk all over you or anyone else, and thats crap. Just be prepared for the possible consequences.

I wasn't advocating being a kissass. If somebody attacks me personally, that's a different story. All I was saying was that I have no personal beef with the guy.
There is one guy I've flown with that I have a personal beef with, who I may have to fly with again some day, depending on where we both end up. He's currently an FO for ExpressJet, and has been for about a year or so I think. I worked with him at a past CFI job. However, why start a personal beef with somebody over comments on an Internet message board that aren't even directed at you? If somebody wants to talk about bad experiences they've had at Colgan, it's no skin off my back....

Airdale, relax man. I know the year seat lock they promised wouldn't be there for the Q but is there sucks. But is there really anything you can do about it (other than find another flying job)? It's not worth getting worked up over every time someone mentions the Q400. On the plus side, if you're still at CJC when the year is up and still want to go to the Q, you'll be senior to the guys that got hired straight into it.
Doesn't help right now, but sometimes you have to look down the road. I've got guys getting hired essentially as street CAs ahead of me, but when I upgrade, they'll still be on reserve......for a couple of years.

I dont have any problems with anyone, just a general observation. I mentioned that airdale is probably a great guy in person and internet is not a good judge of character.
As kellwolf mentioned it is just a new annoyance of mine that everytime the Q is mentioned there are negative remarks.
for airdale or any other though...why in the world would you want the Q after a 1 year seatlock. If it burns jet-a and logs PIC in the book that is the place to be, especially if it is turning 2 screws instead of 1. After 1 year you or anyone in your place 1900 or 340 (not counting 400 hour guys) are looking at a very near upgrade, in your case in the 1900 you probably would upgrade in 9 months or so. I wouldnt pass that imminent upgrade up for any seat in any airplane. PIC is the name of the game, get there as fast as possible and stay there for at least 1000.

Not everyone is in a huge rush to get that PIC. Some would rather live in a base closer to their home. Being closer to home especially with a family can make a huge difference. If it means being in the right seat for just 6-12 months longer it could be appealing to many. There's more to it then just getting that PIC.

In Airdale's case, I think Snuggle pretty much summed it up. The commute is wearing on him, his wife (girlfriend, whatever) works, and an EWR base would help him out QOL wise. Sure, the money might be better, and the PIC time is nice. But it's QOL that keeps you from going insane at the end of the day. It's why I picked PCL over XJT in the end.

If it's that bad to you over there, then pack your gear and go humping. There are lots of places hiring so polish up your logbook and start applying.
