Hired by Mesa

I start in July and never heard if I would receive any training aids before ground school. Does anyone know if they send materials to study. Anyone have any links to where I can find info on the CRJ?

Hi Airborne,

Congratulations! So what were your TT/ME if you don't mind us asking(and no I'm not trying to flame him for working for them or possibly being a low-timer). I would seriously like to know what some of the regionals hiring mins(including MESA's) are right now.

Try contacting the training department or you can go to http://www.crj2.com/start.html to get the CRJ study material.

I called the training department and was told they are trying to get approval from their chief so that they have money to buy materials to send out but they were not sure if that would happen. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
My times are 700/170

Why are you going to Mesa, the land of not too horrible but, but HORRIBLE work rules when you have that much time? Express Jet, Air Wisconsin and Horizon would all probably take a good look at you with those times. Heck, Eagle would probably be a better choice since the upgrade times are coming down.

How does Mesa recruit pilots with these times? Base choices?

Well, I hate to say it but I studies for two solid weeks and was interviewed by ExpressJet last week. Answered pretty much everything correctly in the Jepp and tech room correctly and blew the interview in the last room. So they said that I could resubmit an app in three months and try again. I submitted to others but have not heard back yet. Most apps were send in over a month ago.

That sucks losing the interview at the end. Anyhow, It MESA is one of those double-edge sword thingy's; get jet time but be their slave doing it. I'd rather go to Eagle which I know is hard up for pilots, you are seriously very, very close to their mins. Good luck whatever you choose.

PM sent.

As a Mesa pilot myself I would advise that you hold out for a better regional. That multi time you have is gold, just keep working on your total time and the phone calls will come. Look at your XJT interview as a learning experience and kick ass come next time.

I believe Eagle's mins are now 500TT/100ME. I could be wrong.

Hey Fin,

Do you know if that new min is with the ATP CRJ course of something like that?

Like I said before. I thought I did pretty good. Technical, no Prob. General systems in the twin I fly. I have 170ME and plenty of instruction given so my knowledge of seminole stuff was good. Next room was the Charts. I would say again, I knew 99% of what they asked me just because I put in a good two weeks solid of studying the Gouges and charts. No big deal. Last room was a little different. I don't think I planned enough on what to say when they asked general questions " three things that I need to improve myself on", "what three qualities shoud a captain have?" ect ect. I answered to the best of my knowledge and did fair for the most part. The part where I shot myself in the foot was when they asked my instructing experience. I think I was to honest and told them straight up that instructing was not my thing, I said that flying a 152 7 days a week and teaching 15 privates was not what I wanted to do. They want to hire someone who enjoys teaching and I would have to say that is why I didn't get the job. I also understand that they tend to look for personality, not qualifications. I have no problem with that and maybe that is why they did not offer me the job. Whatever it was, Xjet is a great company and I would suggest anyone with the hours to put in with them and give it a shot. Everyone there was helpful and treated us well for the interview. Hope that helps for anyone looking for a job with them, Just be yourself, read the gouges and smile a lot and most importantly, show them you have a great personality and that sitting with you on a four day trip wont be any trouble.

I remember when you were going through MAPD. Are you going to stick it out at Mesa?

The company sucks but I love the job. I'm not sure if I'll stay or go after my year comes up. Really it depends on how this summer goes and what kind of opportunities present themselves.
