Hilton Head Island: 4/16-5/20

Pays to fly
Finally, and for the first time in over a year we got to take a long trip with the 210. I needed to decompress and my partner, Andy had only tennis on his mind at Van Der Meer. No, we didn't go down for Heritage golf!

I flew down and Andy flew back. It was CAVU all the way down, and as I had hoped, a departing low gave us some tail winds. Going back was just the opposite weather-wise, but we lucked out again as an approaching low gave us some 40+ knot tail winds, much better than we had going down. Very rare to get tail winds both coming and going on that route.

Over New Jersey at 10K with Atlantic city in the distance.

Hopefully this will soon be joined by a GNS 530 in the panel.

Not quite CAVU on the way back at 11K

Diversion around weather. The 496 with XM and our Strikefinder did a superb job, but we still got knocked around from time to time. However a GS of around 200 kts was nice to have!

Back over New Jersey. Can you say "yuk"?

Well, hopefully we won't have to wait over a year for the next trip, and I am hoping we can get back down there within the next couple of months.

Very Cool !!!

My parents live about 15 min's away from the airport there in Hilton Head... makes for a convenient excuse to go on a nice long cross country :D

I'm in HXD now! Just got out of the pool.
Next week I have a 4day with a double HXD overnight. Get in at noon the 1st day and 9am the second. Thats not work, its a weekend :)

Looks like an awesome trip! I'll be down there next year in February...I'll be sure to make a stop there. Also, that gear mirror is a great idea!

very nice photos thanks for sharing , is it an IFR flight?

Yes. We always do these long ones IFR, except when coming back up north, if weather permits, and it did not yesterday.

When coming back they send you out west and that kills time, thus, we usually cancel IFR around southern NJ and head VFR from there.

While we had much stronger tail winds coming back, it took us about 15 minutes longer to get back than to get down there due to the westerly diversion toward the end of the flight.

Have you been over to Robert Irvine's "Eat"? It's the old "Spice" with the same decor.

Nice place, good food, ok prices, but too many photos of him on the walls!

Nice pics! I see that you are based out of CDW, I plan on going to flight school there preety soon!

Where are you going?

I would give Air Fleet a shot. Good school, and they are now co-located at the Avantair FBO (the former Caldwell Air Service facility).

They did a nice job revamping that place.

Sweet pics man. Looks like you guys had a blast. Wish I had been with ya.

Thanks for sharing your flight to Hilton Head.:nana2:

I am headed to HXD today with the wife and kids. I still have the Dakota that my friend lent me in February, so taking advantage of the free airplane.

I will try to take some pics...

Here are a couple from my Weekend at KHXD...

lol very nice thanks a lot for sharing , im trying to get my wife to fly with me ...then with her and the kids all together , its mission impossible , whats your secret?:D

Start early..I first flew with my kids when they were babies. Other than that, pick days when it is VFR and the air is smooth.
