I did a few survey projects in my 150hp 172 where the whole project was above 12k. They can do it. I could reliably count on 13k out of it without the aid of outside lift.FL300 in the pilatus, 11,000 in a Skyhawk once over VA. I was still working survey at the time, got bored and wanted to see how high I could get it. Not bad for a '75 skyhawk with the wimpy 150hp engine.

Actually did FL200 in a Turbo Seminole once, on oxygen. That was more annoying than it was worth, but it was my first foray into the flight levels.
