High Paying and Successful??

Ummm... it is. More stressful. How stressful is flying an airplane? For the most part it is exactly the opposite of stressful. Very rarely it may get very stressful, but even then once you get the ground the stress is gone. You never take your work home with you. Of course, depending on what air carrier you work for you may never go home, which would provide stress. But the job itself? It's not something I think about when I am in bed at night, worrying about deadlines, etc.
Flying is probably one of the easiest and least stress jobs I've ever had. You don't take work home with you. The only stressful thing about it is how one small mistake - when you least expect it - can lead to losing your job (busting an altitude, paperwork errors, etc.) It's more a CYA job these days with all the feds looking in our direction. We keep hearing how the FAA continues to go after seemingly trivial things, like crossing the 'i' when it should have been dotted.

In any case, though, making fast food sandwiches was more stressful than being an airline pilot. And they both paid about the same ;)

You are both correct.

121 flying was be far the least stressful job I had, with the exception you mentioned and occasional weather. 6 years in customer service for a credit card company and 1.5 years as a marketing account manager...in terms of low-stress the airlines win. When you finish the terminating checklist at the end of your 4 day you're done.

In terms of your paycheck, everything beats regional FO.

Is there anyone in this thread with corporate america and airline experience who thinks 121 flying is more stressful than office work?

How would someone in the banking industry freak out and have lives directly in their hands? Money? It's all electronic now-a-days anyway. Bankers work in temperature and humidity controlled environments from 9-5 soooo not seeing the big whoop here. Both my brothers are in the banking industry and neither has ulcers yet from the stress.

Sorry I meant to say they're NOT directly responsible :)

Like software that runs most modern airplanes?
Like the software that puts up false CAS messages?
Like the A/P software that decides to go "that way" ?
That caused pilots to coin the phrases:
@#!$* Honeywell
@#!$* Collins
@#!$* Autopilot
Where's it going now
and That shoot 80v across a 24v system and fry all five tubes?

Software that runs subway systems?
...into each other on the same track.

The software that runs satellites and keeps them from falling to earth?
So Billy Ray's iphone will work
So Bob can get HBO while he writes code.

The software that allows fire suppression systems to activate in a fire?
And even when there is NOT a fire. By the way, many fire suppression sytems deploy themselves. It is the "software" that alerts the monitoring station.....of course the flames through the roof tend to do that also.

Let's face it. EVERY time a plane takes off there is a defined responsibility. Every time a IT tech sits down to write code it is NOT a life altering program. More times than not it is to keep someones email program online or some business that wants its money.

Note the last paragraph:
The jobs least likely to stress you out?
Actuary, dietitian, computer systems analyst, statistician, astronomer, mathematician, historian and software engineer, according to CareerCast

Captain - stress
FO - let the Captain handle it.

I think it depends what seat your in.

Also how the person deals with stress.

Anyway, we should be paid more. :D
