Hey guys. A friend is having trouble with another pilot in the company. The guy is taking under the table HGH, testosterone pills, and performance enhancing drugs like ECA stacks(ephedra, cafiene, asprin). I could bet that ephedra bring banned in the US would already make it not safe for flight. My question is, legally does he have to clear this with a flight surgeon? Get a whole new medical with this stuff listed or is this completely busting FARs? The concern is of course health and safety because this is a passenger carrying operation.
Is he using illegal stuff, or those crap pills you can get at GNC?
If it is real HGH, there is no way to piss test for it. That is why lots of athletes are going that way. It is also 1100 bucks a shot, so he must be making some serious money. It is also an injection too.
As for the test, the company could piss/blood test for that. Not sure if they would, but technically it is illegal. If he is taking test pills, he can kiss his liver/kidneys goodbye. If it is anadrol for dianabol, that stuff is nasty. At least that is cheaper, so maybe he is taking it.
If he is doing an ECA stack, he is most likely getting the truck stop ephedra which is still legal. It still isn't the best idea, because even though it is legal doesn't mean it is safe for flight.
So if he really is on HGH and real test pills, then yes that is illegal. I don't think that it would effect your flight too much. The ECA stack might.
On a side not, we train IFS and ALPS guys/gals before they start UPT training. Part of passing the course is that they have to take drugs like that to stay up and others to knock them out. They have to take them and report back to the flight surgeon. If they have bad side effects, they actually could get kicked out of the program.
