He\'s getting more arrogant one year later!

A year after Daley illegally tore up Meigs Field, an act that shows Chicago is a Dictatorship not a Democracy, Daley had called the decision one of the best he has ever made.

Re: He\'s getting more arrogant one year later!

1 yr later the story has changed from "Keeping Chicago safe from Terrorists" to "Keeping that land for the people of the city and away from rich people who fly!".

What a jerk

Re: He\'s getting more arrogant one year later!

Yeah, damn those rich people and they're money that opens new business, pays workers, and stimulates the economy.

What makes me really mad is that I used to stand up for Daley. When people would say that he was crass, or arrogant, I'd stick up and say "nah, he's just a Chicagoan, he's doing a good job...."

What I think of Daley now, I can't say. Decorum prevents me from stating the extent of my feelings here on this website.

Care to Tell Daley how you feel? Here's some contact info off the City of Chicagos webpage. Figured its okay to post seeing as its public info on the net already.

Meigs is gone and nothing is going to bring it back.

Concentrate efforts on keeping other airports open.

Re: He\'s getting more arrogant one year later!

Agreed. For example, did you know that there are approximately 30 airports right now suffering from the ADIZ that's in place around the DC area? If each of those places has just one flight school with five instructors, that's 150 jobs at risk.

Did you know that three of those airports may soon be bought out by the federal government, and that one of those airports is the oldest continously operating airport in the United States, where the Wright brothers gave training to early military pilots?

Did you know that $100 million in funds was supposed to have been distributed as relief for GA and that the alphabet soup of government agencies was supposed to have a plan in place to open DCA to GA flights and that the FAA was supposed to have a report on the need for the ADIZ around DC by no later than January? And that these things haven't been done?

For more information on this, check out this article.

Article on GA Relief, DCA, and ADIZ

These are the things to act on. Send letters to your Congressional reps asking just why these things haven't been done.

Is College Park (CGS, I think?) still open? How about Tangier Island?

Re: He\'s getting more arrogant one year later!

College Park is still open, but just barely. It's one of the DC 3 and it's got all sorts of crazy regulations that you need to comply with to fly in and out of it. No transients are allowed. If you want to fly into the DC 3, you need to be a cleared pilot and one of the things that's required is that you must be based at one of them.

I believe that Tangier Island is still open.

One of these days, I'm going to fly take one day and do one landing at every single airport in Maryland. It would be fun!

Re: He\'s getting more arrogant one year later!

I flew into Gaithersburg today. First time I'd been in the ADIZ, and it was really a non-event, at least IFR. Don't know what kind of hassles they put up with VFR.

They looked to be starting to get a little busy there, at least at the scheduling desk, and I overheard the flight instructors talking and saying they thought they were going to be busy this summer. Hope that's true.

If you're flying IFR, it means nothing -- you already have a squawk and you're already talking to ATC.

If you're flying VFR, depending on how busy the folks at ATC get, you may have to spend some time flying around in circles just outside the ADIZ until they give you a squawk.

It's more that people just don't realize that it's not that difficult, and they think, oh, God, I'm going to get shot down, so they don't fly.
