Why the Wenatchee Museum is preserving a 95-year-old sandwich
WENATCHEE — Locked behind five doors, hidden in a dark container and wrapped in cellophane sits a 95-year-old artifact: Clyde Pangborn’s sandwich.
I freak out when Panda Express is closed on a quick turn and this guy is flying across the Pacific with a sandwich.![]()

Well half a sandwich, cus someone stole and saved the other half. What a cultural treasure.I freak out when Panda Express is closed on a quick turn and this guy is flying across the Pacific with a sandwich.
Old TV ad where two older pilots were talking about the luxury of modern jet travel. IIRC a major was starting to fly the 747.
Pilot: "Look at the food todays passengers eat. All we got was a sandwich and two apple's."<Copilot looks at CA with a surprised look>Copilot: "I never got an apple."
Even as a kid I thought it was pretty funny.
His books are treasures and long out of print, buy them if you see them at yard or estate sales. I recall going to Barnes and Noble and asking for a copy of "Gentlemen Of Adventure" trying to find a copy as a gift for a friend and they looked at me like I was trying to hurt them, after a couple moments it might have been justified. I did not get arrested and they still had no idea what I was looking for.I always get a chuckle when I think of Ernie Gann’s description of his first line flight with American:
“The stewardess brought up 2 boxed lunches. She placed Ross’s carefully on his lap. She placed mine on the floor, with the same solicitude one might show a wayward dog”
