British Airways Boeing 777-236ER - reg G-YMME flying from Gatwick to Costa Rica has its windshield smashed by block of ice which fell from a plane flying 1,000ft above it. No injuries reported.

What’s the chance of that even happening? The ”ice bomber” was 1,000 above so assume it was going the other direction.

Say 800 knots closing speed? The military pays a lot of money to hit a target at that speed.

What does a "block of ice" mean? Seems ambiguous, but thank God those windshields are as tough as they are. If you ever get a chance try to look at one when it's removed, they're a very robust and heavy part of a jet and I guess this story is a good example why.
