Here's a Toast to Two that Walked Away!

That sure took awhile for me, but I have now flown a plane that is no longer in existence. Glad they got out and everything was o.k.

EDIT: Once again the comments in an aviation article by the general public is just ridiculous.

Quote: Man, what is with all the small plane crashes this year? I think some pilots need to take remedial classes on flying.

Hopefully there were for sure no injuries or deaths.

People are real buttholes when it comes to aviation. They are always so quick to blame the pilots (when in this case it sounds like the pilots did everything they were trained to do).

Exactly. The plane was on fire!!! It's hard to see how this could be blamed on the pilot..unless he dropped his cigarette or something :bandit:

I wouldn't exactly call 2nd and 3rd degree burns and being hauled off in an ambulance walking away. But still to survive an in flight fire in any airplane when the wreckage looks like that is amazing. I can only imagine trying to deal with something like. Fire in the cockpit and it's burning you or you hear the screams of the person next to you being burned.

YIKES! Nice job.

This could have been prevented if spartan would train the future pilots in simulators instead of letting them jump in a real plane!!!!!!!!!

Some of the comments are amusing...

Glad they're ok.

After seeing the photo of the black spot on the ground, I now understand the purpose of the firewall. To keep the engine from burning up!

Congrats to the CFI and Student!

Glad they're ok! Next to structural failure, this is one of those 'I never want to experience' things.

Just found out from my former instructor at Spartan that this was a 172RG. When they went to put the gear down, the power-pack started smoking and subsequently started on fire, hence the 3rd degree burns on at least one of the pilots legs. She also stated that she believes the N number was N5145U.

I see what you did there. ;)
