Has anyone used either AOPA or the Virtual Flight Surgeons site, for help in securing a 2nd class or other medical certificate, after one had been denied? Do those that have used them, is there a recommendation of one over the other?

I have used AOPA. Not sure it helped much, except for a feature they do not advertise. They have whats called "DR of the day". You as a member cannot call them, what you can do is have your personal DR call the DR of the Day who is an AME and he will help your DR with filling out the forms in a way that's more acceptable to the FAA.

It's going to depend on what it is. AOPA is going to be good for advisory services but the folks you pay for are probably going to be able to do more things than the folks that do it as a free membership benefit. I'd check with AOPA first since it is a membership benefit.

Related: when you received your denial, you also received a bunch of paperwork on reconsideration and appeal rights and the like. That paperwork gave you some deadlines. They are important so be sure to follow them.
