Help with logbook entry

Can anyone help me out on this? I am a IRA student and my CFI is logging the flights as dual received. I was under the impression that I should get it logged as PIC because of cat/class rated. He says that is the way he has always done it and he knows that people can't come to a clear answer on this. Anyone? He logged my first two flights with him as both because he said it was an orientation flight to get me used to the piper.....

You both can log PIC. You're rated in cat and class aren't you? And you're sole manip of the controls right?

If both answers are yes, then log it PIC. He also logs PIC since he is a cfi giving instruction.

From what I understand you are both correct.

1. you should be loggin PIC because you are the sole manipulator of the controls. your cfi would be able to log PIC as well if flying under actual IMC conditions.

2. it is logged as dual received becuase you are receiving instruction.

So if I am correct, each flight for instrument will be logged as PIC (for yourself) as well as dual recieved (for the instruction you are receiving).

Thats what I thought...He logs it as dual given and when we are IMC as PIC...I get it as dual received, for obvious reasons and PIC for what is obvious to me as well. Thanks

Sounds like he's a bit confused on the IMC issue. I think he can log approaches if you're IMC after the FAF, but you both get the PIC for the reasons above.
