Help with KLN 94 GPS Approach

Okay so I have a slight problem and would like some help with this. First I have to point out I dislike the KLN 94 but dont have a choice right now.

Okay here is the setup.

head to MUSRE IF/IAF on the GPS 16 at KBWD from the northwest. Instructor wants me to enter the hold before heading in on final.

How do I setup the GPS to let me enter the hold for either full holding laps or atleast the procedure turn before it brings me to INUWE?

Hit the obs button before it auto sequences to the next point. When ready to go in hit the obs button inbound before passing the holding fix
 
I tried this today and it went into obs mode but I was thinking it would show the hold highlighted as magenta like the active course? if thats not the case then I think I figured it out. I am flying again this friday night to try it again to make sure.

Maybe so , The only way I got it to show the magenta on the hold was to sequecne direct to the MAP fix then it showed the hold.
 
The KLN series does suck...

If you have the approach loaded but are stiLl in DTK mode, it should still draw published holds. However, once you go into OBS mode, you just get the line (basically a radial from the GPS waypoint) with the magenta part (on the NAV4/moving map screen) being "TO" on the CDI.
 
The TO brings me to my next question, Say I wanted to just stay in the hold before heading in, How do I know I passed the fix when I am in OBS mode? I didnt see the flag swap to a from today. Is this even a option since you really would not just stay in the hold normally?

Hmm. It should have flipped to FROM. The CDI would act just like it would if you were holding over a VOR, just without all of the errors that a VOR presents.
 
I agree but for some reason it didnt flip. Maybe I was to quick and hit the OBS again when I seen my little airplane over the fix and still not sign of a flip just past it. I will be trying the approach again this friday so I will wait a little longer to see, plus I am bringing a friend that suppose to know the KLN 94 well so we will see :)
 
One C172 I've flown I had to knock on the face of the actual instrument for the TO/FM flag to show back up to show us when we passed a fix in OBS mode.
