HELP! i have a record, or do i?

Hey, I am a student at the University of Houston, 2 years left and wanting to go guard (fixed wing), I am 20 years young and when I was at the idiotic age of 15-16 I did some stupid things! I was caught taking some money, it was $5 dollars, I got a ticket and moved on, I think I got deferred, and then when I was 16 I got in a argument with my parents and punched a hole in my wall, well they were sick of this and called the cops to straighten me out, don’t really blame them, but when they got there they said I would learn a great lesson if they take me juvenile hall and see what its like, they said I would be there overnight, WELL I was there for 2 weeks, they charged me with criminal mischief. My parents were furious, they know I didn’t deserve to be there, but it’s said and done and I did my punishment, and my parents made sure this crap was off my record. Ever since then it’s been all good, just a couple a speeding tickets and that it, so what do you think? Do you think because all these charges are misdemeanors and under the age of 18 I am good? Or should I not even bother with the military, which by the way would be heart breaking if these stupid things prevented my dream? Simply because i am not a bad person with bad moral, i have grown up with good people and have done good things, just made some stupid decisions. Also, I heard that even if you got all the records sealed, the FBI will still find it? Is this true? any advice from the good people at jetcareers?
 
I posted to your other post about the clearance stuff and didn't see this post...sorry. Anyway, the things you did will definitely need to be addressed. I'm pretty sure no one could tell you one way or the other. You will have your chance to explain your actions, but your explanations had better be darned good ones. Also, be ready to explain how you learned a lesson from your past. Current lifestyle activities such as voluntary community service go a long ways to show your maturity.

I saw you want to go fixed wing in the guard. Fixed wing in the Army (active duty) is very hard to get. I didn't even know the guard had fixed wing.

Anyway, before you go signing any papers, I would maybe go see a recruiter and see if they could get your clearance before you join up. I don't even know if this is possible, but it's worth a try. You don't want to get in and then not be able to get your clearance and be stuck with some BS job for the remaining length of your contract.

You still have two years of college left, I would definitely take my time and research this dream of yours thoroughly. Have you considered ROTC?
 
thanks for your feedback, yes, air guard, army guard , air reserve all have fixed wings, more then others but they do have them, mainly f-16,f-15,a-10 even Virgina have f-22 along with many transport aircraft all over the U.S. and right now there are slots open, im located next to the 147th fighter wing here in TX, ROTC i have considered and i currently take classes there out of self interest, though being around all the cadets, i am the only civilain, the reason i dont join is because of the commitment requiered even after washing out of UPT, i have asked some other people this question, they said it wont matter because technically it doesnt exist, things like this are erased after you 18th birthday, but with the military being the military, they can find anything so i dont know thanks
 
Also I have done my research, in fact I work at a flight school, have a PPL with a little over 100TT(I know, not a lot), I work around a lot of these guys that are Colonels, fly military , fly commercial and even have family that fly for career, took a unofficial AFOQT and did well and started to fill out apps. With recommendations and have done plenty of community service considering my high school was Living Water Christian Academy, it was a regular thing. But the question you answered is a sensitive one, that’s why I can’t ask someone that I know would know because I have built a reputation with these men and truthfully, it’s embarrassing. So I am not completely new to this profession, I am there, done research and will attempt, just looking for what I might have to face when the day comes to address this situation. But, anyway thanks for you input, are you military?

1.) Don't lie. They WILL find out about it. Then you're doneski.
2.) Don't make excuses.

Also an unofficial AFOQT doesn't mean jack. Get it done so you can take it again in 6 months if you F up.

Hey I went through AFROTC, I have a friend who fessed to trying marijuana and he also got arrested when he was 8 years old on an AF base for stealing at the BX, but he admitted to it, showed that he is a good student and a good person and he is now a 1st Lieutenant. I can tell you that even if it is sealed, the AF might not find out right away, but when you do your security investigation they will most likely find out and then they will tell the AF and then you are in big doo doo.

I can tell you that now the requirements for getting into the AF are more strict than before because of "do more with less." The AF changed the previously tried marijuana policy to no more than 5 times to absolutely none. They are finding medical reasons to disqualify people, it is harder to get waivers, and more. I can tell you that when I was a cadet, I even had to get a waiver for having careless driving on my record because I did donuts in the snow when I was 16. Anyway, the best policy is the honest policy, the AF values integrity.
