Just got my letter from FAA

They want a forensic 5-panel urine drug screen withing 48 hours of signing for the letter.
-I never signed for the letter. I just got it today, saturday and they had it post marked for 4-12-12. I'm hoping Monday or Tuesday will be sufficient? Assuming I can find some place to get a test.

They also want a psychiatric substance abuse evaluation from someone familiar with aviation evaluations. I have no idea where to find someone like that. I'm also worried about the cost. Is there any insight you could share on how much this might run me? Thank you so much.

I can't answer most of your questions and will leave them to the doctor. I think it could help the doctor & the forum if you were able to provide a little more information.

Most FAA letters like this are sent "certified mail." How did you receive the letter? Did it end up in your mailbox? Did a roommate receive it?

I think the 5-panel urine drug screen is testing for drugs like marijuana, Cocaine(Crack), Methamphetaine, Ecstacy, Amphetamine, or other Opiates. I'm not exactly sure what they test for in a normal medical, but is there any chance you could have tested positive for any of these during your medical urine sample?

Did you report any previous DWI or drug arrest/usage on your medical paperwork? If so, I'm guessing the FAA is just covering themselves. They are extremely cautious when it comes to anything related to mental issues and substance abuse issues.

The letter ended up in my mail box today. I have been waiting anxiously because they said I could hear from them anyday. Five years ago I was arrested but not charged of possesion of marijuana. I completed a diversion program and the charge was dropped. There is zero chance that I failed the drug test at the initial medical exam. I reported all arrests and conviction of 1 DWI. I can understand the FAA being cautious.

What i'm very concerned about is the cost of having a HIMS eval. I don't have a whole lot of money. I'm not 100 that they are asking for a HIMS eval. I have heard that it can be crazyyyyy expensive.....somewhere along the lines of $2000. That is way out of my league and totally out of my range since there are zero in Nebraska. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AFAIK, theres no drug test on a standard medical, Unless those sly devils have been fooling me for ten years.

Also, see PM also.
