ok, so i want to hook my mac up to an external gps reciever and also have live weather with it.....can this be done? i know i know, buy a 496. Anyone done this or know where to get the software/hardware? thanks!

Various map programs will use GPS data I don't know of any open source ones though. I never could use the 496 with any of my astronomy software that supports GPS for location and time data. http://www.anywheremap.com/ might be what you're looking for.
