Helo Escape Advice?

I thought the helo dunker was WAY easier than the "Dilbert dunker". The slow roll and sink of the helo was much easier to physically prepare for than the face-first slam into the water that the single-seat trainer had.

IMO, the Dilbert didn't hit the water that hard...the Navy may have reduced its impact over time...thus it was not very difficult to get out of it.

That's really good to know! I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to go to water survival training as a civilian. The things I learned I'll never forget. I think the thing that stood out the most to me was, you're the only person who is going to save yourself. If you think someone is going to help you, chances are they're either physically unable to, or have already exited the craft.

That is excellent training indeed. It is pretty much every man for himself once that thing hits the water and flips. Get the f... out ASAP is the name of the game.
 
My guess is that the helo dunker would be more realistic if they turned on the sprinklers, added swells, and turned off the lights......just sayin...

I thought it was kind of fun, aside from being kicked in the head lots of times.

Some of the schools have it, saw it on the military channel I believe. Lights went out, had the water spraying, etc. A friend of mine ditched his CH-46 and guess what, it was at night in big swells...yuck.

Where I went they have the option of making waves and rain. We got a demo of it, and they had all the lights off, with "lightning", thunder over the speakers and rain, it was pretty neat

That's exactly what I saw on the show...I think it was the show about Alaskan flying or that Canadian flying company.
