Hello all, i'm new here and I'm posting because im in fear my future is in jeapardy. I'm a 24 year old male in what I thought to be good health. I went in for a routine check up and ekg. the doctor said the ekg said "minimal voltage criteria for left ventricular hypertrophy" but just a tiny bit. He also said he heard a murmur. This scared the crap out of me because I had never had any heart issues in the past. So he sends me to the cardiologist. The cardiologist says he also hears a murmur and sent me for tests. I did a stress test and echocardiogram. I went in yesterday for a follow up and he said that everything is ok, the echo only showed " trace mitral valve regugitation" and that its nothing to worry about, and that many many people have it. He told me he doesnt know why the ekg came out the way it did.

I want to be an airline pilot and I'm working on getting my CFI right now. I already have my commercial multi/single/instrument. I never was told I had this or anything wrong my heart until now. Is this type of murmur and the "trace mitral valve regugitation" a DQ for first class medicals? I'm so scared right now. I dont know all the specifics of the results yet besides him telling me thats the only thing they found. They are mailing me all the test results and he said see him in 6 months. So ill update this with more specifics when they are mailed to me, but with that information, is my career over when I try to renew my first class medical? I'm scared because this is my dream, and im in such debt because of this, and it would seriously ruin my life. Thanks everyone.

I have mild-moderate aortic regurgitation and have a special issuance first class medical. I go every year to my AME and get a new medical just like every one else.

Heart murmurs are easy to hear. Why didn't your AME pick up on it and tell you about it? Mine is so loud it's very obvious.

First. thanks very much for the replies. I dont know why no doctor ever detected it. I had 3 first class medicals prior, never any issues. Maybe because recently ive been ultra nervous during my visits ( even before the murmur was discovered), my heart rate goes from a nice resting 56 to like 80s, and when that happens.. its loud enough to hear? What kind of murmur do you have a-300? Do you have a first class med?

av8 thanks for the reply,mild-mod, any symptoms with that? I heard some people do and some dont from mid to mod.

Hey doc thanks for the reply, do you think for this type of situation I'll need a special issued first class? or since my cardiologist and the stress/echo said "its nothing to worry about" and supposely "trace regurg" of the mitral that Ill just be sign off without any waivers or special issue certificate? once again i havent gotten the complete test results, when i do ill post if i have any more info.

Once again thanks everyone, this is a awesome forum.

I had no symptoms at all other than every time I went to the doctor my blood pressure would be abnormally high. All the Doctors kept telling me to change my diet and exercise which I was doing already so I decided to take myself to a cardiologist which is when I found out after an echo cardiogram. I have a very feint murmur that my regular doctor and AME did not pick up on but my cardiologist with his electronic stethoscope able to hear it. Every year I get an echo and all I do is take that report to my AME and if there is no changes he issues me a medical. Straight forward and simple.

Preface: I am not a doctor.

However, as one who had a heart murmur it turned out that many males that were in my age bracket at the time with my ethnic background also had murmurs, but it cleared up after a period of time.
