Hello. Im new here.

Getting back to the original topic...

Welcome aboard Paul! If you have any questions about Vaughn feel free to ask me. I've got plenty of friends still going there. It was cheap when I was there, I think the price has gone up since then. Last time I flew into LGA I noticed some construction going on over there, did they build a dorm or something? Good to hear they have internships now. I really enjoyed my time at Vaughn and I'm sure you will too. Even though it's a small school it's got a good group of professors and students.

Well, I'm told the resolution is on its way from one of our LECs. It just hasn't gotten to the National level yet. As a jumpseat committee memeber, you should be fully aware that there are enough loopholes in Section 115 that Captains can pretty much exclude ANYONE from the jumpseat for any reason.

BTW, you're EAL buddies have been there. They can recognize a SCAB...not only a full fledged one, but one in the making as well. You would do well to listen to them.

Dowwwwnnn boy, pull back the reigns. Though I agree with you, I think you scarred the bajesus out of the new guy :buck:

All I can tell you is there is a grass roots movement to amend the ALPA jumpseat policy to exclude non-Union pilots. And 'hate' is a pretty strong word. However, SCABS have earned their lot in life and the kind of person who would work at jetBlue, Virgin or Skybus are right on track to join them.

So you tell me...what's is the benefit to treating people stabbing you in the back as professional equals?

Does that mean that I, as a Cape Air pilot, won't be able to jumpseat on ALPA jumpseats?

For now, the resolution (as I understand it) is limited to carriers who fly like equipment. In our case narrowbody jets (Airbus/Boeing/MD). It would not apply to you.

You prefer AmericanHerpes?......

Thats hilarious, but in no way does that help Paul feel good about JC. I do agree with you about these carriers that pay less though

on that note-Welcome to JC Big Roach! Theres a ton of useful information and and its good to have ya.

sorry I can give you insight on your questions...you've logged more hours than me!

I'm not worried about making AmericanHerpes feel good about JC. I'm worried that his infatuation with passenger TV causes him to make judgments about the industry based on incomplete information.

If he really aspires to be a jetBlue protoscab, then he needs to be warned as to what he can look forward to in the future.

Its a good thing he stumbled across JC so he could get some solid opinions and information about the industry. Heck, I would have never known what a scab was until I came here. and now he knows. Thats what learnins all about

Think ahead a bit. If the ass hats here scare him away, then what are the chances of him becoming educated enough to know what's right and what isn't? Probably not so good, eh? Leave the new guy alone for now and go back to playing with your Jet Blue pilot voodoo doll in your basement.

Just enlightening him (and the lurkers) about the realities of today's airline industry. If I had known how things would be today back in '79 I'd have gone into airline management instead of airplane flying. The rewards are significantly greater.

P.S. When you have to resort to name calling, its a pretty good indication that your argument is weak.

I'm not saying I dissagree with you on your viewpoint. I'm just saying you're gonna scare him away and he's not going to learn anything other than "those people at jetcareers are angry at the world". Make our new people feel welcome first, then start the edumication. Not saying "half the stuff you like sucks....you suck at life!"...or something along those lines.

That's not what I said at all. AmericanHerpes thinks the sun shines out of jetBlue's tailpipe based on his experience as a passenger. I'm just trying to enlighen the lad on the realities of AIRLINE PILOT life from the point of view of someone who lives it on a daily basis.

Its not too late for him to get an education and find a real career BEFORE investing a lot of money to chase a dream that will repay him with substandard wages for the first decade of his working life. If you want to be a professional aviator, join the military. Your flight training is free, you serve your country and you'll have the option of earning a good retirement THEN plunge into the airline business. That way you won't have to suffer and can avoid becoming a protoscab just to get ahead.

Welcome Paul...there is lots of good information on these boards for you. As you can see from above, there is going to be A LOT of negativity -and- reality. I remember being young and in "awe" of commercial flight. Yes, it is a career and there are right and wrong choices. There is a HUGE amount of information to absorb. Don't let some of the opinions out there bring you down. Educate yourself, learn from others. Enjoy life...and for God's sake...don't listen to a clown by the name of Brand X (is he looking? I'm sure he'll be here soon!) Velo has quite a strong opinion, so just understand that. There are GREAT people out there and there are crappy people out there and this board is very representative of this industry. After a couple months of reading post after post, you'll know who to ignore. :)

There is NOTHING free in the military.

There is NOTHING free in the military.

:yeahthat: No BS on that. Velo makes a point in that it's a good idea as a back-up in particular, but, it's definately not for everyone and the seats won't fill up on just former military pilots. As I'm sure he is aware, it is hard to get a Naval pilot spot, damn near impossible now to get an AF spot and you have to be willing to put up with a LOT of crap to get a Marine spot. Again, definately not for everyone.

It has nothing to do with him. jetBlue and Herpes are interchangable terms, IMHO.

A word to the wise, especially when trying to educate the newer members, you'll catch more flies with honey (pardon the pun).

Try to use a little more tact here. I'm frustrated, you're frustrated at the whole pay mess. But a little politeness will go a long way.

AmericanJetBlue,

Welcome to the boards. Having fun yet? It's tough to sift through all the knowledge here and get to anything useful, especially with the flamings of some particular members, but there are some good tidbits to be had.

Just when you think you've read enough to have some idea what a carrier is like, what to shoot for, you'll read some posts declaring them evil incarnate.

As a JetBlue pilot I've never had another air carrier pilot, legacy/union/non-union/whatever, be anything but pleasant to me. The only movement talk I've heard of is from the one guy on this board.

Good luck with you aviation endeavors.

Some people are so insulated in their JFK based protoscab world they have no clue what is happening within ALPA or any other Union airline.
