Hello fellow pilots!!

"I understand weight and balance formulas those aren' tthat bad but where else does math come into flying"

Common question from high schoolers. I don't think Math, as you're thinking about it and studying it, is used much in everyday flying. Doing well in Math is still very important, though, as it teaches you to think and solve problems logically.

"I asked my tech teacher would he reccomend it and he said yes"

I doubt your tech teacher got any farther than the fancy DCA website in his knowledge of careers as a pilot.

bah i caved and read some of them... but thats a very good point. I hated math all the way thru school. Don't fight it and ask "when in the hell am i ever gonna use this?" you may not need to know the formulas, but its the processes that train your mind in problem solving. math = good

Math 20083 at TCU = evil

Captainphil, DCA = Delta Connection Academy. Knowledge is power, and time is on your side. You can use the "search" function on this website and probably find 50 pages of threads on DCA alone. You are young, so I would advise to take your time and go the FBO route(to prevent a lot of debt) Also, do your homework and study all the airlines now, that way when your ready to apply, you will know which airlines you want to work for.
I couldn't agree more. Know where you're going with your career and set definitive goals and ways to get to them. Too often (and not just in piloting) I see people who started out doing something to get to another thing (ex, went into business to get into upper management) and they get sidetracked and don't get there. It's never too early to start planning.

and if you need some fs2002 pointers.... you know who to talk to
As a matter of fact I do. How do you put on auutomatic spoilers on the airliners? I hit shift and slash but it only deploys when I put on reverse thrusters? thanks for the help..

When do you want the spoilers to come out?

Duh , I should of known what DCA stood for i'm so stupid lol ,Thank you all for your opinions I am deffinetly certain you guys know what your talking about because your pilots and I will deffinetly take your opinions into consideration if not action. By the way, what flying do you guys do and in what planes I'm interested to know? Thanks for all your help.

definately, not deffinetly...:)

also, start the "what do you fly" thread separately, in general topics, so that it stays separate from the topic at hand which is your career motives...or do a search on it because i think that question has been asked before.

one of the requirements for Delta is definately a 4 year college degree...like others, i always suggest a degree outside of aviation - something you can fall back on if need be.

Welcome.. and try to research all you can before asking a question, that way, we don't all give you the  smiley! :)

on some downloaded planes the thrust reversers are tied in with the spoilers.... check your key config... i use a ch yoke so i assigned spoiler to one of the levers.

on the grammar police.... the deffindeientely was driving me nuts, but i was gonna give the kid a break cause hes only 16.

but now its out..... study hard in not only math, but english too bubba

captainphil ... what sold you on DCA. I know you said you're open to other options ... but I'm curious why you were/are set on DCA?

... and welcome to Jetcareers ... pay attention ... you're getting advise from those who have made, or are making the journey.

Well , I like delta airlines first of all ( even though they are going through some hard times now) but I always was looking for a college that stuck out at me and that one did because I sae the video commercialon their site and what they offered got me interested and its only a quick flight down there. But yes I still am opened to many choices. Thank you :D

ah ha... don't let the marketing suck you in man!!! visit as many flight academies, FBO's and mom & pop schools as you can!

DCA has some serious marketing issues (ie: false advertising) with us here and honestly, they're not on our recommendation list right now (far from it).

definately keep your options open and recognize that DCA isn't really associated with Delta except that it's a subsidiary off of Comair (which is owned by Delta). meaning you don't go straight to Delta from DCA.
