HeliValue$ Appraiser

Job description:

This position begins as a Staff Analyst, grows through the accreditation process with the American Society of Appraisers, and finally evolves into a Staff Appraiser. In the beginning, the employee will receive basic training in three fields: the dynamics of the helicopter resale industry, the financial transaction types common to helicopter transactions, and appraisal theory and techniques.

The second stage is a 2- to 5-year segment of heavy data analysis and market research. This includes reading and entering applicable component information into spreadsheets, comparing results against the current resale market, and discovering and researching new helicopter transactions in relationship to our existing database. It also includes interaction with clients; shaping and monitoring their expectations regarding their jobs, and then obtaining feedback from them on receipt of their final reports. This is a critical part of the training cycle and provides a constant feedback loop of data → information → final report.

The third stage is that of Staff Appraiser, in which the employee will be capable of performing appraisals him- or herself, of writing good quality reports, and ultimately being given authority as a sole signatory on his or her reports.

Desirable candidates:

HeliValue$ straddles a line between the helicopter industry, the appraisal industry, and the finance industry, and the ideal candidate can be trained to work in all three arenas comfortably.

Desirable candidates have either a civilian or military aviation experience, preferably helicopter-specific and preferably maintenance-oriented; OR a banking or financial services background.

The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent hours, good writing skills, excellent math (and Excel) skills, and superb judgment.

Math, writing skills and judgment are critical, as is the willingness to work for a small company.

About HeliValue$:

HeliValue$’ corporate culture is family-like, with in-office banter covering a deep sense of caring between our employees. Our members tend to be loyal to an extreme, to the point where many of our team members work for us well past normal retirement age.

HeliValue$ is headquartered in Wauconda, Illinois, a small town 35 miles northwest of Chicago. The starting salary for this position is $35,000, with pay raises scheduled at accreditation and again at specific skill levels.
