Held seats question

This will be my first time leaving the country as a standby on United. Loads have been looking great until this morning. Suddenly there are 36 held seats. Reducing seats available to 2. What is a held seat and should I start making other plans?

If you're going by yourself, definitely check out Atlas/Polar as an option. Unfortunately you need to list 24 hours ahead of time for international flights (and ANC/HNL) but definitely not a terrible way to get around.

You know, the cargo thing kind of makes sense right now. NCA's entire fleet is grounded right now so I bet they're scrambling to get any cargo on any airplane headed that direction.

Does Atlas/Polar ever make it out to SIN?

Generally how full are the JSs?

Thanks

They do, but not with much regularity. I think there is an ICN-SIN-HKG trip on the polar side that happens occasionally, then for random charters.

Jumpseat depends. The company uses the planes to reposition crew whenever possible. Anything from CVG-NRT tends to have more than a couple. I’d say MOST of the time there’s a seat open. Most 747s can carry 8 people including operating crew. Some can go up to 12, but that’s the exception.

It's once every 7 days. ICN-SIN-HKG like the Emu said.
I was just looking at it from a get to SIN to buy a cheap ticket elsewhere, but you'd have to plan around that 1 flight.
