Hello all,
i have wanted to be an airline pilot since i was in 2nd grade, dont worry im only a sophomore in HS now, but anywho i have a heart murmor. i have seen that i can and cannot get a first class medical w/ this problem. i was wondering if anyone else knows if i am able to get a first class. right now i have a 3rd but the murmor was waivered by my cardiologist because it "is the size of a pinhead, with no limiting factors." also if i was able to get it waivered for the med. would i still be able to be hired by the majors?

P.S. sorry if this is a confusing post but im in a hurry right now

I didn't know that murmurs had sizes, but I had a heart murmur up until I was 19. But according to my cardiologist that I went to at the time, it was a common genetic occurrence for young black men to have slight murmurs. I never heard another thing about it.

i have the exact same thing went to the cardiologist and ran test said it was the size of the tip of a ball point pen. AME said ok and told me i wouldnt have a prob getting a first class.

I suppose it would depend on your circumstances, but if it isn't life threatening, you should be able to get a 1st Class. I have one due to an atrial septum defect (hole between left and right sides of the heart), and I still passed the U.S. Navy flight physical (long story). The flight surgeon did tell me I would never qualify for BUDS.

Just talk to your AME about it; he/she will know what to do.

Yup, its possible to get a 1st class medical. I have a bicuspid aortic valve and currently hold a 1st class med.

I had a heart murmor when I was in the third grade, I went into Boston and the doctors made me wear wires all over my chest for 24 hours. I grew out of it, and hope to become an airline pilot someday

Now would this gentleman have a problem actually getting hired by an airline because of the murmur? I assume each airline has its own medical screening? Thanks
