Heart Murmor (dun..dun..dun.)

When I was in 3rd grade, I had a heart murmor. I basically wore the wires on my chest and stuff for 24 hours.

I never heard from the doctors after that, and at my most recent yearly checkout, the doctor didn't mention it.

Heres the question, when I go for my 3rd class medical in a few weeks (solo July 11th..woo!) should I mention this to the examiner? Should I put it on the paperwork? Should I completely ignore the fact that I once had a heart murmor?

I forgot to bring this up to my instructor, but was hoping you JC people could help me out..

FAA is so strict!

I had the exact same problem when I got my medical, I told the examiner and he requested a followup by a cardiologist before he gave me the certificate, luckily I had an EKG done about a year prior so that was sufficent for the examiner. I would just play it down as much as possible. They'll probably make you get an EKG.

I will catch hell for this, BUT dont volunteer anything. Thats what alot of us go by in the military. As soon as you do, it opens up a big can of worms. You might not like the results

It's the most horrible, most excruciating pain you'll ever go through J/K

They just put the patches on your chest and monitor your heart for a little while then you go home. (Then a month later you get a bill for $2,000 yikes!

I think that anyone who remembers anything self incriminating from the 3rd grade (for christ's sake) is pushing the whole honesty thing too far.

BTW one of my kid's had "the worst freakin' murmur anyone ever heard" when he was about that age. A year later no sign of it. I guarantee he isn't going to "remember" it. (I've taught him too well).

The Doctors used to tell me when I was younger I had a minor heart murmor. Just passed my medical the other day, I guess I grew out of it

Sorry for adding more confusion, but I was asking What is a heart murmor? I've never heard of it, just curiosity

A heart murmur is a hole in your heart, a lot of people have it, but it usually does not affect a person in any way except for an abnormal sounding heart Heart Murmur info <-- Click here for more info.

I would just report it on your medical form. Remember the application asks if you have ever in your life been diagnosed with heart or vascular trouble. I believe that would qualify as some type of heart trouble. Better safe than sorry because remember if they ever happen to find out about it and it wasnt disclosed there can be some stiff penalties for lying on your medical application. Remember FAR 67.403 calls for stiff penalties for falsification of any information on forms to the FAA. Not worth the risk
