heart and blood pressure med

So I know a lot of my pilot friends have aged and are now on meds for High cholesterol and high blood pressure, They can still get their first class medicals with out a problem. whats the deal, is it a special issuance, are there certain medications to stay away from, I am just trying to get some information together about it.
