Headsets for Jet Drivers

I have a pair of Halos.

I use clarity aloft. My only complaint is that the comply tips are spendy.

The are a bit spendy, but I figure I would be spending about the same amount on Batteries each year with an ANR.

Having said that I also have Clarity Alofts and have for over 4 years now. In everything from piston singles and twins, to turboprops and now Citations. I dont think I would ever be able to go back to a clamp headset ever again.

I kept my Zulus from when I was in the Dash and they work nicely in the 737. Our flights are routinely over 6 hours so having the ANR and bluetooth have saved my sanity alot of times.

H20-10s I have had since I was 16... Noise canceling is not really necessary in a jet... However, they are the only ones with aux inputs...

We have a particularly loud Hawker, and Non-ANR is plenty.

Clarity Aloft Pro! Been using it for years (MD11, A300, B75/76) and the best headset I've ever worn. Tried the new Clarity Aloft Pro Plus but found them too heavy around the ears and sent them back for another set of the lighter weight TSO Pro version. Wouldn't wear anything else...super lightweight, comfortable and very quiet.

Spending more than a couple hundo on a headset is the surefire sign of a ponce, a fool, or a momma's boy. Conceivably all three.

What if you got a really expensive set, and another set to go with it for free? I have two Bose X's, that I only had to pay for one. From Bose, brand new, about 6-7 years old.

I have changed my tips once in 6 months of bro flying.

I guess I could change them once a month but I only change them when the foam gets worn and crappy.

You can buy one of those energizer battery chargers with rechargeable NI-MH batteries for $10-$20. They last for a good 20-30 hours of flying, and I just have a spare set in case they go out. Throw them on the charger every other day, and you're good to go. Batteries for life. I use the Zulu 2s. Very comfortable, and very quiet. The bluetooth is a nice feature as well.

I can't speak as far as airline application of headsets since I haven't gotten there yet, but I personally hate the clarity aloft headsets. I borrowed a set from a friend for a week to try out with a new pair of ear buds. After an hour or two in the plane, the inside of my ear would be in pain, and the metal part that goes over each ear would start to dig in. I was not a fan. With clarity alofts either people love them or hate them. Unfortunately, I hated them.

You bend the metal to fit your head......

And they have 3 different size earbuds. Not to mention some people go as far as getting custom molds.

Thanks for all your help and input guys!

I'm going to try the Clarity Alofts first and send them back If I can't get used to them. The DC ProXs are a close second choice!

Cheers

Initially I had the same issue but I added some electrical heat shrink tubing on the part that goes over the ears and made made them very comfortable to wear. I noticed the newer Clarity's have already added the padded heat shrink tubing.

I used the clarity TSO in the CRJ and they worked great. I now use a Telex and really like them too. If you're on a budget the Telex 750 is a steal.

Maybe I'll have to give them another try sometime. It just felt like someone was holding their fingers in my ears. Really uncomfortable.

Molded earpiece (Satin Soft from Pilotstuff.com) and a Plantronics MS-50 headset. Comfort and no headband. But then again, the Airbus and the 757 aren't that loud.

I use the telex 5X5 proIII with a custom ear piece.

Works quite well with loud cockpit jets.
