^^^ What he said! Boy if you start seeing the same carriers in the hiring pool, toss up a caution flag before dropping your name in the hat. They may be a great place to start (ETOPS, heavy jet, international) but I'd be thinking carefully about cost of living, the carrier's ongoing union troubles (maybe troubles is the wrong word, but I'm recalling earlier threads here), and the isolation of Hawaii...

But..what about if the cost of living wasn't important lol..the experience might be great if you just started dispatching lol
 
I want to direct you toward this thread first, which addresses the new dispatcher contract. After you flip through the pages, take a gander at our second thread, which was only started up ... eh. November's actually 5 months ago but that's still recent by professional "I'm 26 years old, I would like to settle down in 5 years' time and maybe meet people that aren't on Tinder" standards. Shrug.

I mean, to each their own, sure, but. I was disappointed by the hard truths this forum revealed about HAL.

Maybe some want to go for the interview experience and "mini vacation" ;). I know I did (prior to contract talks).

Since I can't seem to PM you, I'll say it pays the bills and puts food in my stomach. Coming from five years of a negative atmosphere makes anywhere look good. Say what you will about them, but this shop's been good for the experience so far. It's everything else about Ohio that's sucked.

Necro-posting here since we have about 4 threads going regarding HAL, but there's (another) opening over on JSfirm that I saw...Aaaaand i I have to ask if anyone here heard back from last time.

I got offered the assistant dispatch position but I turned it down. I originally applied for the dispatch position and couldn't make the low $19.54 an hour pay work in Honolulu. Seems like Hawaiian will be a revolving door for awhile until they hash out a new contract.
 
I applied a very long time ago and they requested additional information, but never heard a peep after I supplied it to them.
 
I know of one JC member who's got a phone interview. As I told this person, just go into it with eyes wide open and with as much info as possible. It's not a happy place right now but as a single person, you could make it work and gain some good experience to move onward and upward. I've also been told that current management is actually trying to make some positive changes there. Good luck to any and all that applied.
