Hawaiian Airlines Reaches Contract with Dispatchers Union

I heard a .50 cent raise 1st year and upwards of $1.00 at top of scale :bounce:

All kidding aside, Congrats to the folks at HA. I know they've been working for a new contract for a while.

Base Pay Only

Step 1 - $28/hr (previously $25)
Step 13+ - $60/hr (previously $43.10 on a 10 yr scale)

*based on 1752 hours a year.

Nice job on increasing the top out. Admire them for standing fast considering I heard the first contract offer included a pay CUT.

They work a 4-2-4-2-4-4 rotating schedule. 8 hour shifts with no overlap. They actually work 219 days a year.

Shifts are:
6am-2pm
2pm-10pm
10pm-6am

I assume that's because of the rotating schedule? Why not have straight shifts, work a 40 hour work week (instead of the 33 or 34 hour week, and take home an extra 10 or 20K?

I assume its QOL over the money.

Most major dispatchers dont work 40 hour work weeks. I work for American and next year if I will work 1797 hours and 200 days a year before vacation. With vacation, it will be 184. I will make about 3600 every two weeks base pay with a raise in April and December 2017. My two week paycheck will be higher if I am able to keep my international qual and add some other relief premium quals. 10 holiday paid at either straight time when off or double time and a half if working increases the guaranteed money. Close to 4,000 every two weeks isnt out of the question before overtime.

Over and double time will increase it even more. When you work less hours you can pick up more OT. I can make 6-10K every two weeks next year if the overtime is plentiful enough. When you have more time off you can pick up more overtime.

Lets says I work 20 days of overtime next year without picking up any double time shifts, thats an extra 15K right there. Ive only worked 204 days and 1977 hours. My yearly gross will be around 115K. Not too bad if you ask me.

The Hawaiian dispatchers see it probably the same way. The beauty of 8 hour shifts is that you can quick turn every 8 hours for overtime. Those that dont want the overtime, enjoy either the time off or traveling. Some both. QOL matters more to many than maximizing money.
