Flying in the islands might get boring over time, but don't forget Hawaiian also flies to the US west coast, Manila, Tahiti, American Samoa, and Sydney. There are likely more destinations to come.
Until you've seen the style of interisland flying, you won't understand why guys love it. The visual approaches they do in the 717 are wild! Think flying into DCA on the river visual 19 except over the most beautiful landscape you can dream of (and no one to shoot you down).
One interisland captain I spoke to while jumpseating home recounted what his day was like:
- Have breakfast and drop the kids off at school in the morning
- Hit the beach (surf & paddle canoe)
- Report for a 1 pm show
- Last flight blocks in at 8:30 pm
- Pau hana! (done with work! <-- if you can even call it that)
