Having the best of both worlds

Gotta love owning your home... great investment

Yup. And the beauty of it is that you don't have to pay any taxes on that gain. Even if you sell it, when you sell, if you buy a new house, the gain goes away!

Gotta love that. Biggest tax savings out there for the middle class.

Why limit it to aviation? THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES (except death and taxes).

Speak for yourself. I hope to avoid one of the two, haven't decided which one yet.

It pretty much comes down to this:

"Do something that you like. Forget about the pay for Christ's sakes. Regulate your style of living to fit your income. Just have fun in your job, that's the main thing. Too many people think, "Well I've gotta make so much money, I've gotta get this kind of a paying job." And it's a strain to make ends meet."

And I'll give you this:

"There comes a time you can't do what you want because of the money. You need money to survive in America, especially if you have kids. Or maybe you can go on welfare because of kids and have taxes pay for you to live."

To answer your original question, I think there is more risk than you realize at Skywest. The company is so dependent on the partners for so much of its growth that it may be riskier than you think.

I do think that there is also a major risk at the passenger carrying major airlines, but I also think that the future for FedEx and UPS and ABX/DHL is very bright.

I think the bottom MD-11 f/o at FDX is about year 3 right now, perhaps year 2. I know that we have MD-11 captains with under 10 years seniority. In fact, I think it's closer to 8 years.

Just something to consider.

I used to work for FEDEX when I was 18 as a handler. I worked at the APV station in Irvine,CA and one night they asked me to help out with the sort down at LAX. Well, when I got there we finished offloading the truck and had some extra time. I managed to roam around for a few minutes and walked out to see a Airbus sitting on the ramp. WOW! I thought. Right then and there it hit me. I wanted to be in that cockpit. It took me about a year or so to gather the money but after that it was pilots life for me!!!

The one thing that sucks about FEDEX is I can't jumpseat on most other carriers. But then again FEDEX does travel the world!
