I recently left my job on good terms to take another. I fulfilled all my contractual obligations and was told my final paycheck would be in the mail. That was a month ago.

Ive called the HR department and the chief pilot trying to resolve the situation with no luck, the chief wont respond to my inquiries.

What are my options?
 
This happened to a friend of mine also. After getting the run-around he contacted the local branch of the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division and they were happy to help him get it resolved. I believe there are over 200 of these offices throughout the country to serve us.

Demand letters on your attorney's letterhead are very effective in these instances.

Honestly I think you've done the right thing so far. If I was you I'd just cal HR again today, explain the what happened and ask to speak to payroll. Somebody must know what happened to that check and why it wasn't mailed.
 
Attorneys are easy to find. Use the Google.

Demand letters usually cost about $200, though, so depending on how much your check is, it might not be worth it to go that route. The suggestion of the DOL office is a good one. Most states require pay checks to be issued in a certain amount of time, like 30 days, and the local DOL office will enforce it. If that fails, though, I'd go the attorney route just to teach them a lesson, though.

For sure, turn them into the Labor Department. Won't cost you anything but time. You can fill out the complaint forms on line and then start calling them after a few days. You will also be compensated interest which accrues each and every day that your check was late. Your former employer will also be subject to a fine. Look at the Labor Laws in your state- here if you quit a job, a company has 72 hours to get you a check. if your are fired or laid off, you have to be paid immediately. So they are going to owe you far more than the original amount and don't settle for a penny less. Good luck and let us know what happens/how it goes.
 
I would start by emailing Human Resources and CC'ing the Chief Pilot. You will need that documentation trail if you end up needing to utilize the Department of Labor.
The first email should include all information: Who, What, When, Where and Why/How.
Even the most simplest facts need to be spelled out.
Give them an deadline to respond, i.e. "Please respond to this email no later than Friday, because I have already waited xx days."
The second email should refer to the first email being sent on XX/XX/2016 and state that you have not heard back. Further delay will result in you contacting the Department of Labor with a complaint.
This will get any Human Resources moving!
