Yesterday on a training IFR Cross-Country we were told to descend from 7500 feet. There was a VERY strong tailwind and our airspead was 135 Knots. This is in a 1999 Cessna 172SP with 180 Horsies. On the descend we were in the yellow line but the air was smooth so we kept it there. We were showing a groundspead of 175 knots. We asked the controller and he verified 175.

I know that this is no were near the speeds that most of you do here on a daily basis, but for a 110 hour pilot it was fun going that fast.

Coming back too FOREVER. Our groundspeed was only 90 knots
 
yeah..a few weeks ago i had a pretty strong headwind in a 150 which of course was not a fun thing..that was a loong night. i think there were a few joggers on the ground passing us. but seriously, our groundspeed was just about 40 indicating true at 90.

once we descended it calmed down.
