I've read that Lucas admitted the mistake and they scrambled to cover themselves with expanded explanations. In the first paperback, they wrote time-units or something, suggesting it was a mistake.Of course not, it's a unit of distance. The Kessel run is charted at 18 parsecs, however, by flying closer to the black holes enroute, Solo was able to shave the distance covered to less than 12 parsecs.
