Looking back at my last month of flying in October, I think I did a lot of 'slam-clicking'.

Layovers in Mexico City and I just wanted to go to some hole-in-the-wall restaurants and meander around at my own pace in Polanco with no destinations in particular. The copilot went home in Las Vegas, and I had just spent a week there so I just watched Hulu because I couldn't eat solid foods and couldn't enjoy a cocktail because I was on antibiotics. Laid over at home the next night and had a medium-length layover in Dallas where downtown was loaded full of AT&T conventioneers packing every bar, restaurant and lounge in relative walking distance of the hotel. Plus, I kept changing copilots every day (staffing, we need to hire like YESTERDAY) and at some point you get tired of having to re-tell your life story twice a day.

so what happens, derg, when you are on a layover with another pilot (a FO if you will) who also wants to enjoy hole in the wall restaurants? Do you each do such things on your own, or would people join forces? I'd probably want to tag along, if not to just hear some old MikeD stories......

Oh that’s all good, lets go order like food critics! :)

I’m technically not a ‘slam clicker’ but I don’t have any interest in Irish bars, the crew discount at Applebees and I don’t have any contract answers.

A little birdy says that pilots getting written up by flight attendants for all sorts of malarkey have spiked.

Be careful.

I believe it. Two weeks ago, the captain I was flying with was written up for taking a banana from the basket. It was a 5am flight and food options were limited. FA asked him to put it back, and he did, but the FA decided to write him up for it.

Who are these stews from hell?

Lucky we get crew meals (even short flights). Otherwise if a FA pulled a shenanigan like that and I have no other food option in the plane, I’ll walk off and go get food. And perhaps even make a PA explaining the real reason the flight would be delayed.

Are crews not allowed to do that?

Personally, I think the way this was handled was a bit extreme. Food guidance in the FOM doesn’t specifically address this situation.

Without quoting the company FOM on this, I would say this item didn’t fall under the food for purchase guidelines; those items can only be offered to crew after passengers had an opportunity to purchase. Maybe the FA was considering this as theft? But I think that’s a bit extreme in this situation.

What is all this “ write up” talk? Where can I write somebody up? Is there a form?

Call it what it is, ratting out... Tattle tale....dropping a dime...snitching etc.
