Hand held Transceiver

Good morning everyone, I have a quick question regarding hand held transceivers. I'm interested in this AR-108 Scanner, but it says its ideal for aviation enthusiasts; would this be a good purchase to have if the radios go out when im flying? I don't really want to spend too much money but if its not capable of what I want it for then it'd be a waste.

No-I believe that is a scanner or receiver only. You need a transceiver if you want to have a back up hand held-

I use the sporty s one--the batteries last a good long while.

Absolutely right, a scanner only receives. A transceiver will both transmit and receive. I personally have an Icom I'm real happy with.

That is just a scanner as mentioned, and is VERY expensive for one that only receives air band.

I have the ICOM IC-A6. It works well, and the battery lasts a while. It was reasonable in the $$ dept too
