Haiti Relief Flights

I'm suspecting a little bit of politics there . . . a few hours ago, they couldn't even get anybody to answer the phone and consider flying . . . until they found out it was a high-profile mission! Thinks like that sound familiar, MikeD?:D

Very much so. Have dealt with that a number of times!

Refugees are normally the best passengers you'll ever have. ...

Unless you're evacuating Saigon....:)

Speaking of, Ever read about the VNAF C-130 (#56-0518) that was taking off during the fall os Saigon with 452 people onboard, including 32 in the cockpit itself, and the plane was about 20,200 lbs overweight?

Well, I've been "waved off". I guess that somebody decided at the last minute that it should be all Captains flying, so I get to drink at home instead!:p

That is just wrong. Got to love politics :sarcasm: . Looks like I won't be getting to go either. I am just about at the end of my rotation so they'll probably use one of the guys just starting, if we get a trip.

I asked SkyWest to let me take a Brasilia last week. Everyone was really into it happening, all the VP's, etc. On Friday morning the FAA basically told them they wouldn't allow it right now. It may happen sometime, but not quickly.

i'll re-ask my sidenote/question... does anyone know any operators that are primarily/solely humanitarian outfits? aside form airserv (not hiring)... i havent really heard of any that are dedicated to this sort of thing.

id be very very interested to fly with a company whos primary goal is helping people.

There is a group out of KFPR that has two DC-3 and a 310. Hit up NickH here on JC I think he did some flying with them.

There are a number of Christian organizations whose main purpose is to support missionaries. The largest two are Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) and JAARS.

got two guys from my company going to do damage surveying...
So AA sent picto'd 172s down there? That'd be sweet, and ballsy, but I'd do it in a heartbeat.

True, but before anyone goes down that road you need to understand that the job hierarchy is Missionary first, mechanic second, and pilot third. Awesome flying though.... and new Kodiaks in some places.
