Haiti Relief Flights

I just heard that one of JC's very own is flying a relief mission into Haiti this evening.

I don't have permission to say who it is, but it's good to hear!

Great work for whoever it is....

I met someone, from the forum, today who may be heading down there this weekend.... maybe same person?

Keep safe down there.

Flying up from Colombia overnight, there were a lot of "Reach" and a bunch of aircraft holding for their slot time into Haiti. There's a LOT of stuff going on and the airspace is really busy. I was trying to listen up for Polar's voice over the radio, but we had to switch to Havana and then Mi-Jammy.

The airspace is crawling down there.

Looks like it'll be in the next couple of hours. They're having a problem finding FAs since we'll need them to bring medical personnel down and refugees back out. So, I'm just sitting around waiting for the green light!

Refugees are normally the best passengers you'll ever have. I flew a hundred from the Congo (via BRU) once and they were friendly, respectful and gracious. Now the "Ah'ma million miler" folks that wanted to fly the airplane because they played with FlightSim were another story...

Well, I've been "waved off". I guess that somebody decided at the last minute that it should be all Captains flying, so I get to drink at home instead!:p

I'm suspecting a little bit of politics there . . . a few hours ago, they couldn't even get anybody to answer the phone and consider flying . . . until they found out it was a high-profile mission! Thinks like that sound familiar, MikeD?:D

Sounds familiar to me. We could always tell how high profile the mission was by who was assigned the flight.

Good Mission: Two PICs.
Cool Mission: IP and a PIC.
Awesome Mission: SIP and a commander.
Mission to fly ten miles to be a part of a mock aviation accident: Newest PIC and a PI straight out of flight school. :)

Too bad, man. You should have been left on. We get the same stuff in my neck of the woods. Somehow, some sorties need 8 or 9 crewmembers, rather than 3.

got two guys from my company going to do damage surveying... kinda pissed i cant be a part of it because i actually do crave to do some "meaningful" flying... anyone got leads on humanitarian outfits that are hiring these days?

We need an all MTSU flight crew.

Oh, that's industry-wide! :)

That's why Southernjets had "Inaugural Joe" when he was a VP.

He "upgrades" himself to the 777 captain seat, way out of seniority, then "volunteers" to fly the inaugural flight into Tel Aviv, Israel.

Classy.

I really hope UAL is enjoying that gentleman.
