Had interview with PSA, Republic to follow...

PSA was great, nice folks, liked it a lot. I through my resume out there for a few airlines, only heard back by two so far. First interview ever, as 4 years NROTC and almost 20 years military. Anybody interview with Republic?

I know a few PSA guys and they seem to love it there. If you have SJS, Republic has that nifty E -170 ;) Best of luck man, let us know how it goes.

Serious question, though - what determines whether military guys apply to regionals or to the majors? I flew the 738 box with a career Navy hornet driver and, more recently, instructor, who was talking about applying to some of the majors. But then I've known ex-military at the regionals as well. Just curious.

Whoever said they love PSA is on drugs, worst reserve rules in the industry hands down. Captains are bypassing upgrading just to avoid it.

Actually, FOs are bypassing upgrade to avoid it. And that happens everywhere.

That said, the reserve rules are pretty bad.

Most companies give preferential hiring to military guys if they're hiring. But until the last six months or there were no majors hiring, so for the guys getting out that wanted to fly regional was there only option... FedEx was hiring sure, but there's a lot of competition. My newhire regional ground school had two military pilots in it.

I interviewed at Republic last month. If the E-170 is what you want, they aren't having classes for it until February.

There was a fairly large shuttle class starting today 12/10/12. And there are classes for all three certificates for the month of December. I think it just depends on who you talk to or who's doing the talking when finding out about that kind of info. Some recruiters probably just have to fill a certain class and you won't know what other classes are going on.

I knew about the 12/10 S5 class. There was also a 12/12 Republic E170 class that starts on Wednesday. Sounds like they really try to pressure people into going on the Q400 and CHQ certificate!

I figured it was a "here's what we have, take it or leave it" type of thing. Can you stick to your guns if don't want a certain aircraft?

bunk22, I only had one airline bite for an interview, then I went to an aero job fair and had interview offers from every airline except PSA. If you have a particular regional in mind, the job fair was worth the time and money.

I can't believe a guy like you wants to go to the regionals!

I imagine that he is taking the strategy that many former military pilots do -- sending out apps to absolutely everyone, taking all the interviews that offer, and taking the first job that is offered (and quitting that one to move on when a better offer comes).

Remember, also, that there are guys like me who are no longer actively flying and are non-current. For the most part we don't have an opportunity to go directly to a major because of that lack of currency.
