Gulfstream IV crash in France

How the heck does someone get a GIV FO spot at 24?

As stated before, it's not that uncommon at charter companies to see this. The G-IV is a fantastic airplane, but as they become cheap (some are around $8 million these days), charter companies can pick them up and staff them as they would a G-III/something smaller previously. Before leaving the airlines, I thought the exact same thing.

Or accept a very sub-par salary. I'm not insinuating that's the case with this crew whatsoever - just wanted to add that I've seen G-IV SICs make $40,000 - $60,000/year, which is about $20,000 - $40,000 less than most non-charter gigs would pay for the same position.

I've even see International G-IV PICs make $70,000 at charter operations.

$8m? More like 4-5mil for a old one. I know a flight department getting ready to sell a sub-75 s/n G4, and they're expecting to get about $5 mil for it, and this was a pampered part 91 bird, not a charter workhorse.

Being in the right place at the right time, or the owner/ operator really likes you. I don't know any of the people involved in this accident. So I'm not implying that was the case here.

However I know a guy who became captain / aircraft manager on a Gulfstream at 24, because the owner liked his attitude. One of those right time right place kind of deals.

I'm not sure of his qualifications, however I was employed by a Fortune 100 pharmaceutical Co. at 23. I had been flying my entire life (soloed at 16,PVT,Multi and Inst @17, CFI CFMEI at 18,A&P 20 and ATP 23. I had 5000 hrs at 23 and 2 Type ratings). His age is not the issue, his experience is however.
