Gulfstream Intl Airlines Is Now Silver Airways

I see you can get as high as 1600 in the metro with the mod and I am sure that there are mods for the 1900 too

Here, take it out back and measure already, since that's what this is becoming

the D has you beat by over a thousand pounds with out any mods. But I will agree they both are 19 passenger airliner and they are certified differently

LOL ya I saw that coming that is why it is basically the same airplane but I know most if not all passenger airlines are running the 1900 as 2 crew

You made a comment about the autopilot, which was incorrect, then went on comparing the 1900D with a random metro of your picking using wikipedia to defend an argument. Pretty silly IMHO.

How is the 1900 certified different than the Metro? They are both under part 23. FYI, I didn't have an autopilot in my 1900 either.

Sadly people see what they want to see when it comes to self-evaluation (yours truly included). One of the most difficult lessons to learn is to accept constructive criticism without immediately saying "yeah, BUT...".

Some learn the lesson, some never do.
I actually, meant that the current economy/ job market is to fault, not the type of airplane he is flying.

Heck in may 2008 I was "supposed" to interview at jb, with nothing but 1900 time. They canceled 2 days prior sadly.

I do see how my post could have been misunderstood easily though.

I said I was not sure but it was something to do with an autopilot for a certain kind of single pilot 1900 also I have only seen the metro I have no experience so yes I did use Wikipedia for the weights as I knew the 1900 could haul more

Autopilot in lieu of SIC doesn't apply to cargo. It's right there in that great big paperweight the Feds make us pretend to read.

Not sure what you mean that they're "certificated differently". Both are evolutions of the Queen Air, when you get right down to it, but obviously the Metro has better engines.

Forgive Boris everyone, he's been drinking quite a bit. Everyone just stop moving for a minute or two and he'll go back asleep. Poor drunk bastard.

My curiosity is that overnight they went from a PFT/PFJ operation to a supposedly respectable airline. Or did they?

That's a big paradigm shift, virtually overnight.

It wasn't really overnight. It was a multi-year evolution. They became unionized when I was there. Then they got their first contract shortly after I left. It had industry-leading pay for small turboprops. Even trip and duty rigs. Then they shut down the ab initio program. Then a few years ago they started hiring street captains without requiring PFT. Then a couple of years ago they started hiring FOs who had higher time (1,200 hours I think) without requiring PFT. Then new owners. Then a complete elimination of the PFT program and Gulfstream Academy. There have been many changes over the years. It wasn't an overnight shift from scumbaggy operation that required PFT for street captains to suddenly being a "normal" regional. It was an evolution that took a long period of time following the retirement of Tom Cooper and Buddy Casey moving on to Pinnacle.

How are you comparing Gulfstream to Skyway? Please elucidate.

Both are unionized small regional carriers flying feed for mainline partners in mostly small turboprop aircraft. How can you not compare the two? The only slight difference was the handful of Dorniers that Skyway had for a while.

Aren't regionals in general to blame for the deterioration of the airline pilot job?

Hard to tell whether you're being sarcastic or not, but how can you blame regionals for something that they didn't create? Regionals wouldn't exist if it weren't for mainline pilots agreeing to sell their scope for higher pay.

Skyway 1996: A pilot interviews. Shows up for ground school and is an employee.
Gulfstream ,up until recently: Pilot applies. Interviews. Cuts check. Trains. Flies for X amount of time. *poof* on the street.

Skyway and Gulfstream, apart from flying Beech 1900's, have nothing in common and even trying to say, "Same same, GI!" is disingenuous.

Know how many emails I received over the years from people with 500-ish TT, 250 hours of 1900 time and were asking about employment opportunities? Too many.

No wonder the general public doesn't respect professional pilots when some of us will pay oodles of cash to land a temporary job.

You are on a tear today, holy cow man! Moak got you all worked up there at National?

Doug, the key to your post is "until recently." I'm not comparing the GIA of 5 years ago to Skyway, I'm comparing the GIA of today to Skyway. They are basically the same kind of company, so any sort of derision towards GIA or the people who work there makes less than zero sense.

Makes total sense. Gulfstream was a mole on the ass of professional aviation for decades and ooh, name change and new jets and we're expected to let bygones be bygones overnight?

Hell, they should at least send a fruit basket, first.

And no mixed nuts in the fruit basket or dried apricots. *shudder*

It seems to me that you're just having a really hard time letting go of your GIA hate, even though the facts indicate that you should. No more PFT, no more scab management, and a good contract for that type of carrier. There is no legitimate reason to bear any ill will towards this company anymore. Look at it objectively, Dough. Your attitude about it just isn't making sense.
