Washington Center got real pissed at SWA after the guy was asking for shortcuts multiple times a few weeks ago. The frequency was crazy congested. Pilot had no situational awareness.

Could you hear the futility in the fo's voice as the captain repeated asked him to ask ATC for something ridiculous like direct LGA?

I’ll ask for shortcuts but a little situational awareness goes a long way. The frequency was congested and you could just hear the controller getting a little overwhelmed and angry.

I just throw it in on the initial request. But I won't bother the controller again with it. He/she heard it the first time, even if the request goes unacknowledged, and if the controller can give it, great; if not or doesn't get to it due to workload, no worries.

Yea the SWA guy repeated his request a few times after the controller didn’t get back to him. Then the controller finally got back to him
