Ground Instructor FOI Question

I am looking at getting my basic ground instructor cert. The question I have is how I go about "waiving" the FOI test for being a "teacher" at an accredited college. The information I am looking for seems to be difficult to locate. Do I just take my info down to the FSDO, or what?

The reason I ask is I want to get this done and will eventually get the CFI, but want to knock out the FOI before I am no longer a "teacher".

You ask why do I "" Teacher? Well, I am an AF instructor under the Community College of the Air Force and while at the formal school house, I am a teacher. Make sense??

Yes. Of course you will also need the results of your BGI test.

The following is from FAA-G-8082-7C . . . . . Flight and Ground Instructor Knowledge Test Guide

If you are pursuing initial flight or ground instructor certification, you must successfully complete the fundamentals of instruction knowledge test. However, if you hold a current teacher’s certificate at the junior or senior high school level, or you are an instructor at a college or university, you can receive credit for this test.

Is is only for junior high or high school level then?

(I was thinking I would have to add something to my cert. then, but I just remembered I have ESOL which is K-12. Maybe that will work.) I won't have to worry about it for awhile anyway.

Nope...pretty much any teacher...at least if it as an accredited university or college. It's on my short list of things to do, so I will let you know how "smooth" it was to get the FSDO to sign off on it.

61.183

(e)Pass a knowledge test on the areas listed in Sec. 61.185(a)(1) of this part, unless the applicant:

(2) Holds a current teacher's certificate issued by a State, county, city, or municipality that authorizes the person to teach at an educational level of the 7th grade or higher; or

(3) Is employed as a teacher at an accredited college or university.

My main certification is in Elementary Ed, not university. I don't really see much of a difference and don't understand why they would have middle and above. The same clases are required for both. The only difference is the extra test you take to add the subject. I think the ESOL may work though since it is K-12. :)

61.183(e)(2) ... teach at an educational level of the 7th grade or higher;

Some states have different certification levels. Not all are K-12.

I'm interested in this, will take the GI test and see what the FSDO says, my job title doesn't say 'teacher' but the position does have teaching reqs.

It turns out I am not affiliated with a 'US' university, although the regs to not explicitly state that. I passed the FOI (90%).

I think I'll have more trouble trying to convert the FOI/AGI passes into a certificate though, as I am meant to appear at a FSDO in person, which is difficult from London. Unless a DPE could do it via IACRA?

Alex.
